Alpaca wool felt care

Clothing, accessories and home textiles made from alpaca wool felt are simply fantastic. They are natural, individual and durable. With the right care, you will enjoy these high-quality products for a long time.

Care rules for alpaca wool felt

  • Cleaning - Remove all loose dirt particles with a dry clothes brush or a hoover. If you have stains, you can wipe them off with a damp cloth. If necessary, you can use a mild shampoo, a special wool detergent or curd soap. Never rub, brush or machine wash the felt

  • Drying - Dry wet items slowly, lying flat in the air.

  • Smoothing - Iron with a moderately hot iron - wool setting, also with steam.

  • Odours - The fibre is dirt and odour repellent. One night in the fresh air is often enough to get rid of odours.

Pilling

After some time, small lumps of wool form on some surfaces. This is known as pilling. It occurs particularly in areas subject to wear, such as on the back of felt bags or on the surface of cushions. The reason for this is the resulting friction, which rubs loose wool fibres out of the felt that appear on the surface. The easiest way to remove these is with a lint shaver.

Further tips

Felt tolerates contact with water. However, prolonged soaking or incorrect washing techniques can damage it. Excessive movement, heat and aggressive chemicals can cause the fibres to become matted, shrink or lose their shape.

The felt must also not be impregnated, as the fibres will stick together and the natural self-cleaning function of the wool will no longer be guaranteed.

As it is a purely natural product of high quality, you should protect it from moth damage during storage - because moths also love alpaca wool. Wrap your favourite pieces in mothproof packaging, especially if they are to be stored for a long time.
