Economist Elia Legua is managing director of Ecco Exe E. I. R. L in Lima and has been committed to improving the living conditions of disadvantaged women in Peru since 1987. Single mothers, women with disabilities and older women are trained in the manufacture of knitted toys and fashion from alpacawool. I'll meet her at her studio in San Juan de Miraflores.
The work can be done by the women in the studio or at home, which is especially important for single mothers. The training at Ecco Exe gives the women the opportunity to get a job and earn an income.
One project, which was relaunched earlier this year, is dedicated to the training of women in the Santa Monica prison in Lima. The training is intended to enable women to lead a life free of crime in the post-prison period and Ecco Exe is also open for further collaboration.
